Text of the provision
Art. 554. A present possessor who shows his possession at some previous time, is presumed to have held possession also during the intermediate period, in the absence of proof to the contrary.

What this article means
If a present possessor proves he also held the thing at some earlier time, he is presumed to have possessed it throughout the period in between, unless there is proof to the contrary.
