Text of the provision

Art. 547. If the useful improvements can be removed without damage to the principal thing, the possessor in good faith may remove them, unless the person who recovers the possession exercises the option under paragraph 2 of the preceding article.

What this article means

A possessor in good faith may remove useful improvements if they can be taken out without damaging the principal thing. The right is defeasible: it yields if the person who recovers possession exercises the option in the second paragraph of Article 546 — that is, elects to keep the improvement and pay for it instead.
