Art. 501. Every co-owner shall, after partition, be liable for defects of title and quality of the portion assigned to each of the other co-owners.

What this article means

Once co-owned property has been divided, each former co-owner remains answerable to the others for defects in the title and quality of the share that each received. Partition ends the co-ownership; it does not end responsibility for what you handed over.
