Text of the provision
Art. 1273. The renunciation of the principal debt shall extinguish the accessory obligations; but the waiver of the latter shall leave the former in force.

Remitting the principal debt extinguishes the accessory obligations; but waiving an accessory (like a guaranty) leaves the principal in force. The accessory follows the principal, not the reverse.
