Text of the provision
Art. 1240. Payment shall be made to the person in whose favor the obligation has been constituted, or his successor in interest, or any person authorized to receive it.

What this article means
Payment must be made to the creditor, his successor in interest, or a person authorized to receive it. Payment to the wrong person generally does not release the debtor (subject to the next articles).
