Art. 1148. The limitations of action mentioned in articles 1140 to 1142, and 1144 to 1147 are without prejudice to those specified in other parts of this Code, in the Code of Commerce, and in special laws.

What this article means
The limitations in Articles 1140 to 1142, and 1144 to 1147, are without prejudice to the provisions of Articles 1155, 1173 and 1191 and to the rules on registered land.
The specific prescriptive periods fixed for the actions listed in Articles 1140 to 1142 and 1144 to 1147 are not meant to be exhaustive of every limitation period in Philippine law. Other parts of the Civil Code, the Code of Commerce, and various special laws may fix their own periods for particular kinds of actions, and those specific rules remain fully effective. This article simply confirms that the listed periods coexist with, rather than displace, whatever limitation rules apply elsewhere to a given claim.
