Text of the provision

Sec. 18. Succession. – In legal and intestate succession, the adopter

(s) and the adoptee shall have reciprocal rights of succession without distinction from legitimate filiation. However, if the adoptee and his/her biological parent

(s) had left a will, the law on testamentary succession shall govern.

What this section means

In legal and intestate succession, adopter and adopted child inherit from each other reciprocally, with no distinction from legitimate filiation. But where the adoptee or his or her biological parents left a will, the law on testamentary succession applies instead.
